About the Organisers

ISSCO
ISSCO, the International Society for the Study of Chinese Overseas, was established in 1992 as a scholarly, non-political and non-profit professional society of individuals and institutions interested in and committed to the study of Chinese overseas. The primary purposes of the society are to advance research and scholarly exchange in the study for Chinese overseas, to provide means for research and publications, and to organize and support national and international conferences.

School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was established by Singapore’s government in 1991 on Yunan Garden, the campus of the preceding Nanyang University. Its immediate predecessor is Nanyang Technological Institute and the history can be further traced to Nanyang University, which was the first Chinese-language University in Southeast Asia set up with donations from people of all walks of life. NTU has developed into a research-intensive university, comprising four colleges - The Nanyang Business School (the College of Business), the College of Engineering, the College of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, and the College of Science. In addition, it has two affiliated institutes which are autonomous - S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies and the National Institute of Education. NTU is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. Under the College of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) opened in 2003, with a mission to fulfill the ideals of teaching and scholarship in the humanities and social sciences, enabling graduates and researchers to confront the challenges of the 21st-century world. The HSS has a vision of being a leading intellectual centre of humanities and social sciences. It has six divisions: Chinese, Economics, English, Psychology, Sociology, and Linguistics and Multilingual Studies.

Chinese Heritage Centre
The Chinese Heritage Centre (CHC) was founded in 1995 to advance knowledge and understanding of ethnic Chinese communities in different parts of the world. Established as a non-profit organization, the Centre’s work is guided by an international Board of Governors. CHC serves as a research centre, a Museum as well as a Library. It is housed in the historic Administration Building of the former Nanyang University, a landmark establishment as the first and only Chinese-medium University outside China, founded by the Chinese overseas. In order to fulfil its role as a leading research centre on the Chinese outside China, CHC has undertaken a range of integrated activities that include research, publication, public education, collection of academic resources and community outreach.
