PLACES OF INTERESTS

Marina Barrage
Opened on 1/11/2008, this dam across the mouth of Marina Bay, transformed Singapore’s 7 water ways into a fresh water reservoir. From here, you can see Singapore’s financial district from here. On top of the barrage, you will be able to get a surround view of Singapore’s skyline.

Singapore Flyer
Officially opened to the public on March 1, 2008, the Singapore Flyer is currently the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. Described by its operators as an observation wheel, it reaches 42 stories high, with a total height of 165 m, climb on board and enjoy the night skyline of Singapore from above, anything higher, you will have to go on a helicopter.

Merlion Park
Merlion Park is located near Marina Bay, Singapore. This park is a popular tourist attraction and a landmark of Singapore. Taking a picture here is a must for everyone to show that you have been to Singapore.

Clarke Quay
Used to be a military quay for the British forces in early Singapore, it was handed over to the merchants as Boat Quay became too crowded. Today, after the river cleaning programme, it is now part of Singapore River’s night life area. Come and have a ride on its famous river cruise and enjoy the night lights of Singapore.

PLACES OF INTERESTS

Civic District
The Civic District is the historic birthplace of modern Singapore. See the many landmark buildings littered around Singapore River. Visit the Merlion, the symbol of Singapore, have a walk down the Esplanade. Look at the Esplanade Theatre at Bay (known locally as the durian) and the Singapore Flyer and get a glime at the Marina Bay Sand, the newest Integrated Resort in Singapore.

Peranakan Museum
The Peranakan Museum is a museum in Singapore specialising in Peranakan culture. It is the first of its kind in the world, that explore Peranakan cultures in Singapore and other former Straits Settlements in Malacca and Penang, and other Peranakan communities in Southeast Asia. It is housed in the Old Tao Nan School building at Armenian Street.

Chinatown
This is the district where Chinese immigrants first congregated. Celebrating its 170 years anniversary this year is the Thian Hock Keng Temple, one of the oldest Chinese temples in Singapore. New Chinese arrivals pray to the main deity Mazhu, the Goddess of the Sea, to give thanks for a safe journey from Southern China to Singapore.

Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall
The Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall also known as Wan Qing Yuan, and formerly as Sun Yat Sen Villa, is a double-storey colonial villa at Balestier in Singapore. The villa is now a museum commemorating Dr Sun Yat Sen who visited Singapore eight times between 1900 and 1911. Today, the villa is home to a collection of at least 50 paintings, calligraphy works and sculptures. oil and watercolour paintings and calligraphy works by top Singaporean and Chinese artists, such as the late Singapore pioneer painter Liu Kang, well-known Buddhist monk and artist Reverend Song Nian, and Cultural Medallion-winning artists Ong Kim Seng and Tan Swie Hian.

Kampong Glam
Named after the Glam Tree (Melaleuca leucadendra), it is the settlement of the Malay Community of Singapore. As seafarers, the Glam Tree is very useful for them to be used for making and repairing their boats. The Malay Heritage Centre, or Istana Kampong Glam, was formerly the resident of the Sultan of Singapore. Today, it severs as a place where aspects of Malay’s lifestyle are kept. As this was also the place where North Asian and South-east Asian Muslims gathered before going for the Haj in Mecca, the place is full streets with Arabic sounding names. Walk down the streets and enjoy the Arabian favour here.

Little India
Arriving with the British, serving as soldiers and workers, they first settled at a place called Kampong Chulia, near Chinatown. As competition for land with the Chinese at Chinatown, the Indians decided to move their village to Serangoon River. Mostly Hindus and Muslims, there are many exquisite Mosques and Hindu temples in Little India. We would also be able to see how Indians go about their life in Singapore and how they become a very important part of Singapore Heritage.



SPECIAL PROGRAMMING

The Ee Hoe Hean Club
The Ee Hoe Hean Club was founded in 1895 and was one of the oldest millionaires' clubs in Singapore. It gone beyond functioning as a social and business club, its members were actively involved in the political development of China during the pre-independence era of Singapore. The club was gazetted as a Heritage Site by the National Heritage Board of Singapore.

The Baba House
157 Neil Road was officially opened in September 2008 as the Baba House. Once the ancestral home of a Straits Chinese family, it is now a heritage house which facilitates appreciation, reflection and research into the Straits Chinese history and culture.  This is articulated primarily through the reconstruction of a domestic space, architectural conservation of the townhouse, and restoration of interiors including furnishing, household materials and decorative features.
